Advertisements Through the Ages, and How They Affect Women's Self Perception

1920's
Most of the advertisements from this era contain almost no photographs, and very few of them contain drawings. The adds for the most part concentrate on youth, and retaining or regaining it. There is also a considerable amount about how foreign products, foreign women and looking foreign is exotic, interesting, and attractive. One can see how many people are also encouraged to buy the products using the words in the ads (as often the pictures are abstract) and when there is an image it is usually a drawing, of a woman or of the product. It is interesting what use there is of words instead of photographs. There is very little about sexuality, or using these products to attain the attentions of men. There is also very little pressure to change your appearance to become skinnier or have different attributes.
